Review: ‘K Love’ By Devon Atwood & Alice Cornwall

“I just hit the lotto.”

If any phrase could accurately demonstrate how I feel about the collaborative effort between Devon and Cornwall, this would be the one. The beauty of K Love is that you don’t even have to be a k-drama (Korean Drama) fan to understand the story, the culture and the context. If you’re already a fan of these dramas, then be prepared for a special treat.

If you’re looking for a slow-burn, clean romance and an engaging story that weaves two cultures into one, you’ve found your book.

***WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ K LOVE, PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION.***

K-Drama: ‘My Girlfriend is a Gumiho’ Review

Omo.

It’s going to be very difficult for me to articulate just the level of impact My Girlfriend is a Gumiho left on me.

I’ve waited a full week to really gauge my feelings on this drama. I loved this one so much that I wanted to take a step back and make sure I wasn’t wearing blinders. But even after that time has passed, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho still makes me giddy. When a drama is everything it’s supposed to be, you can’t help but feel victorious.

K-Drama: ‘Strong Woman Do Bong Soon’ Review

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon was ultimately a diamond in a rough. It wasn’t perfect and it could have used some tightening in the story line as the story struggled to fill up time with characters and plot lines I cared about. This drama excelled in viewership and created a lot of buzz due to the likability and chemistry between the two leads, Do Bong Soon (Park Bo Young) and Ahn Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik). With some polishing, the diamond could have shone a bit brighter. Aside from some minor setbacks, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon was just a lot of fun to watch. And after the end of a particularly long and taxing day, it’s the kind of story I really, really appreciate.

If you’re ready for a HEA (happily ever after), come on in!

K-Drama: ‘Voice’ Episode 1 – 2 Overview

I am so sorry for being away for a short while again. Real life has been a bit complicated and work has been zapping away any of my creativity. So, I thought I’d talk a bit about the week and finally post my thoughts on the first two episodes of Voice. I’m all caught up now, but I didn’t want this to go to waste and sit in my drafts for months before trashing it. So, please enjoy!

That said, a quick review of my week.

I went to the optometrist and my vision sucks. It got worse by two steps. Since my job is starring at a computer screen and analyzing things, I’m not all that surprised. On a bright note, I did invest in a cute pair of glasses. I wear contacts full time and my optometrist suggested it would be a good idea to give my eyes a break at night. So, I conceded. Although, my bank account wasn’t very happy about it. Nonetheless, I will show you what my glasses look like when they’re ready to pick up. They are super cute! After that, it snowed pretty heavily that night. The next day, the plow trucks didn’t clear our roads until I had missed over half a day of work. Oh well. Safety first! Thank goodness for paid days off. I scrambled all day Friday trying to catch up with my work, but I never did. Of course, that’s just the nature of the beast. I’ll get back on track next week if I’m not overwhelmed with being given more projects that other people don’t want to do.

I’m feeling very burnt out, so I haven’t been posting as I didn’t want to post garbage. I also live with my ailing grandparents and help take care of them/help with the bills. It’s been a lot more stressful than usual the past few weeks, but it just wouldn’t be my life if things ever went smoothly. You just learn to adjust to the chaos. It certainly keeps life interesting — that’s for sure.

But one more bit of news before we get into Voice! I have Progressive auto insurance and I had a very successful six month run using snap shot (a device that tracks your driving habits). My insurance, at renewal, will be $96 cheaper. I liked my previous auto insurance company, but Progressive has been so good to me with a cheaper quote and opportunities to earn discounts that I’d never go back.

Sorry for the random, boring real life rant. Click on the link below to dive right into my thoughts on Voice.

K-Drama: ‘My Shy Boss’ Brief Overview [Ep 1 – 4)

my-shy-boss

I’ve been anxious, nail-biting anxious in fact, to see Yeon Woo Jin as a leading actor again. Marriage Not Dating is my go-to k-drama rom com. Woo Jin and Han Groo just stole my heart week after week. And while he has been in Divorce Lawyer in Love, I haven’t found the interest or inspiration to try that one just yet. But if you have watched and enjoyed it, you are welcome to lay it on thick. Work your k-drama magic on me. But back to the story at hand–My Shy Boss has really impressed me with it’s blend of comedy, sincerity, and also the realistic portrayal of social disorders.

K-Drama: ‘Romantic Doctor Kim’ First Impressions

Episode 1 of Romantic Doctor Kim comes in swinging hard like a wrecking ball, taking everyone out in one fell swoop. It’s pretty progressive for a k-drama and an enormous amount of events unfold in just the first hour. We have quite the intriguing setup and it will be interesting to see if the drama can maintain this fast pacing without compromising story and character arcs.

K-Drama: ‘Shopping King Louis’ Series Overview

2016 has been good to drama fans. In fact, it’s been so good that I’ve been miffed at my inability to do episode recaps. Plenty of other bloggers do some great recaps, so I didn’t mind it so much, but this was a drama I wish I could have talked about from week to week. That said, we’re focusing on a brief overview of Shopping King Louis and some of my thoughts. It’s not a proper review — it’s more or less a bunch of my thoughts on the series in general and how it impacted me. Many spoilers are ahead. Please keep that in mind before clicking the link below. Thanks!

K-Drama: ‘The Legend of the Blue Sea’ Teaser Trailer

Ever since I began my k-drama journey back in April of 2014, it’s been a whirlwind of love (major props to me taking a huge shining to Lee Min Ho as Yoon Sung in City Hunter. These days, I exclusively watch k-dramas, so to have the opportunity to watch my original bias in a currently airing drama, is certainly something for me to get a little giddy over, especially when said bias is the reason this blog became a reality and not just a through away idea.

I’m sure this drama is creating plenty of waves (pun intended!). I’ve been so slammed at work (took on a larger account! omo!) that I haven’t really been able to see what the masses have said about this teaser or their expectations. Instead, I’ll just give you my interpretation and thoughts.

Legend of the Blue Sea airs November 16th 2016. Mark your calendars, drama fans!

K-Dramas I’m Currently Watching & More

It looks like I bit off way more than I could chew during this k-drama cycle, but I couldn’t help myself. When a drama (or Ji Chang Wook) calls out to you, you must watch. And I’ve done just that. I’ve listed below a few things I’m currently watching. This doesn’t include any other Asian dramas I’m watching. Too many dramas and so little time! (I probably should wear a shirt that says that since I say it so often!) Sigh, who wouldn’t love to be paid for talking and watching k-drama all day? I’d be set for life – that’s for sure. They always say to do what you love, and what’s not to love about k-dramas?

Plus, Lee Min Ho will be back next month with Legend of the Blue Sea. He’s my original k-drama bias, so it’s going to take a lot to curb my excitement on this one.

Before I gush and go over a tirade on my love for k-dramas, I’ll just cut to the chase and share some of my thoughts. If you have not watched K2, 1% of Something, and Go Ho’s Starry Night, please keep in mind there may be small spoiler-y tidbits. I talk a lot about K2, so if you’re not up to date, please don’t read past the first two paragraphs.

Drama Ramblings & Real Life Updates

Hi readers and fellow drama fans!

It’s been a long time since I last posted – so long that it feels like years have passed by. I’m aware that statement is grossly exaggerated, but it really feels that way too me. Real life hasn’t been too kind. Between work, car hunting woes, and some family issues going on, it’s been nearly impossible for me to sit down and blog. I find enough free time to watch my dramas, but it’s at the expense of much-needed sleep, so I made the executive decision to push off blogging until my heart was itching to write and I had time to do it. Thanks to Labor Day weekend here in the US, I have off today, Monday, so there’s nothing like an extended weekend to help me recharge my batteries.

Slowly but surely, I’m going to get back to my blogging routine, but until that happens, I put together a little post with some of the dramas I’m watching. I had to keep it short and sweet, but I warn you that there are spoilers, so please continue on at your own risk if you’re not up to date with any of these dramas.
